On St. Stephen’s Feast Day, the St. Stephen’s Archdeaconry at Iju, Akure North of the Church of Nigeria Anglican Communion marked her Centenary Anniversary this past Christmas with more than the usual annual St. Stephen’s Day Celebrations.
Honors were handed out to families of Departed church members who helped in the work of the early Church at Iju and one of those honored was late Ọtun Ijọ, Pa J.F. Adamọlẹkun for his missionary work and leadership.
It also marked the formal dedication of the Family Homestead of the Adamọlẹkuns – 23 Aiyegunle Street, Iju – a one-story bungalow which all children of Papa decided to donate to the Diocese through the Iju Archdeaconry earlier in 2014 for use in whatever form for furtherance of the Church’s work.
As of present date, the last surviving child of our late father, Dr. Wole Adamolekun, turns sixty while the oldest is 88 years old. With God’s abundant blessings on us all, the old building and the land will be more useful for the Church which has always been a driving force in not only religious development but in social and educational development of the town since its inception.
Present at the dedication of the Early 20th Century building which will give way to a new structure as decided by the Diocese were Archbishop (Dr.) Abe, retired Archbishop of the Province of Ondo Church of Nigeria (Anglican Communion), an Iju son of whom the whole community is very proud; the Akure Diocesan, The Rt. Rev. (Dr.) Borokini, Bishop of Akure; Archdeacon Kujero, and some church officials.

Viewing grandpa’s house in the background reminds me of when we were growing up, especially sitting next to him on the bench outside for fresh air. I remember when he taught Sesan and myself to recite Psalm 8. I was about 7/8yrs old then!
….sweet memories I will never forget.
