News fed to the world by Western media always portray a country filled with criminals even though the scams that are now common around the world, are known by hundreds of millions by the internet, show Nigeria as breeding, perhaps, no more than “civilized” and “uncivilized” countries.
While scams perpetrated by “Nigerians” are real and although many Africans now pose as Nigerians as a lot of such stories have shown, the few templates used by the crooks are so easy to detect as not genuine that it continues to baffle the generally hard-working Nigerians how people would continue to fall for the lies.
While anyone would pity a widow defrauded of her sole means of livelihood being lost to a con artist, none should shed a tear for a person who wants a collaborator who would share the proceeds of money to be defrauded from Nigerian government, the “heirs” to a fortune that needs a foreign account to get it out of Nigeria …
Millions of genuine and patriotic Nigerians – despite governments that have never done anything to earn patriotism from the citizens – also receive such chain mails, including this blogger: why would someone who does not know me want to get me millions, and why should I want my account to be used for such criminal activity?
If something sounds too good to be true as the saying goes, then it really may not be true.
Finally, there are more scammers per capita from other countries than, perhaps, Nigeria and I will name only one since the country and Nigeria are fellow travellers who are always at – or near – the top of Corrupt Countries: Russia.
Still no excuse for any country but Dr. Opawoye’s title for this piece of not [surprising to Nigerians] news as a no-go area for Western Media is very apt; good news out of Africa, especially Nigeria, does not fit into the m.o. of Western journalists covering the continent.

What CNN, BBC, Aljezeera and western media will not tell you about Nigerians
Yesterday, 7th May, 2016 at Howard University in Washington D.C history was made. Out of 96 graduating Doctor of Pharmacy candidates, 43 of them were Nigerians and out of 27 awards given, 16 went to Nigerians.
They will only tell you how Nigerians are scammers and cheats, how Nigerians are into drugs overseas et al.
If you don’t blow your trumpet, no one will blow it for you.
