Being content of Ekweremadu’s  speech delivered at the Second Annual Conference of the Young Parliamentarians Forum held at Abuja, Nigeria’s capital on Tuesday, July 19, 2016.

 

“I still hold the view that this feeding bottle federalism, this act of robbing Peter to pay Paul, which we have gradually enthroned as state policy since the fall of the First Republic, remains cause of our economic quandary.”

SENATOR IKE EKWEREMADU, Deputy Senate President, belongs to the opposition PDP. The Senate President, a former member of the PDP, now represents the ruling APC from one of Nigeria’s Northern States. The APC opposes “restructuring”, a yearning of the southwestern base of the ruling APC. – TOLA.

      Like millions, I hope so but how can it be when the party that represents the majority of Yorubaland at the national level despite the long collective wish, suddenly decide “it’s not a priority …” – an echo of the president’s Northern say-so?

      Like you, however, may be we should not lose hope; we must not but how the change would come remains uncertain; but then, again, the recent words of PDP’s Deputy Senate President Ekweremadu could offer a ray of hope?
