Buhari unveiling New Nigeria … ALL key posts in family&Northern Muslims’ hands, use Yorubas to inflict “the unkindest cut of all” on Tinubu, then Nigerians … “born to rule” – Tola Adenle

September 26, 2016

First, pardon the title that is worthy of being a para! It’s an attempt to get this post understood even though it’s my commentary on Femi Fani-Kayode’s press release carried by multiple Nigerian news outlets today.

The copy I used is from but can be found, title [below] and all in the Punch, Vanguard …

I probably do not say this but those who have read my essays in newspaper columns and here for many years know that I’m no one’s lackey. Much as I was gong-ho about Buhari from before the 2011 elections which ended for him in derision by most journalists when he lost and wept, I’ve been vociferous in my criticisms once he started showing that the real Buhari was just starting to show his true stripes.

Apart from other pointers, Buhari’s naming of his relatives and core Northern Muslims to ALL key positions alarmed me so much that it marked perhaps the real turning point in any mistaken belief I might have had that he came to reform Nigeria.

In the early going of this administration, I was shocked after reading a report of how Professor Ọṣibajo, Vice President, was being treated by the president and his inner circle: he was reportedly locked out of a meeting where he should have been; another report had el Rufai, the Christians’ hater-in-chief ruler of Kaduna State, insult the VP which reports have it Buhari condemned.

I told someone related to him he should just resign because those are two ominous signs, and even went further that I was afraid for him he could be terminated!

And the past couple of weeks that have seen Dangote, perhaps as a decoy to have Nigeria lose all its assets by “sale” “be it to Chinese” have proved pivotal to Buhari’s idea of change. The policy – forget it being marred by plagiarism that has been written about in the press as being from the president’s right-hand relative – seems ill-conceived and even less-thought out: the president would lead a “change begins with me” from behind.

Then the always-looking-scared Finance minister announced the president needed “special emergency power” to fight the recession; some days later, Adeosun (the Fin.Min), the Budget & Planning Minister & the Central Bank governor told Nigerians – actually the CBN gov – that the worst is over and by December, we’d be out of it!

And today, came the bombshell that actually does not surprise me: that all the shenanigans of sly Saraki & Co. at the National Assembly were choreographed right from the top.  [See photograph below and the caption I gave it on September 12.]

After Oyegun, Asiwaju Tinubu and the President dismissed the idea of restructuring, a key campaign promise, I was surprised that Asiwaju too would say – or rather, not denounce Oyegun – that “restructure is not a priority”. I posted several essays a couple of which I wrote but the one by retired General Alani Akinrinade got the following introduction by me:

“Both retired General Muhamadu Buhari, now president, and Aṣiwaju Bola Tinubu promised a true federation if APC wins the presidency during the campaign. We all believed.

“AS FOR APC, the party and the elected reps at both Houses, why and how did you get sucked into THIS? What did you negotiate for the South for this selling off all of us to the interest of the North?”

My introduction to Rtd. General Akinrinade’s Nigeria must restructure or break up:

[Photograph illustrated a posting from September 12 but copy underneath makes it ideal for this story based on the purported assumed triumph of Buhari in turning Yorubas eyes to the sun – pardon the very colloquial translation of a Yoruba saying. TOLA]

A very robust Saraki, nary a sign of “hardship”, his AND wife’s  financial problems at Economic & Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) perhaps, behind him – Nigerians are never in the know of conclusions of “investigations”/”trials” – is understandably relaxed in this  photograph standing [middle] next to President Muhammadu Buhari after the 2016 ‘Eid Il Kabir service.

Above excerpt and quite a few essays since 2011 show my dissatisfaction with the way Asiwaju Tinubu has frittered away an informal  unwritten [sort of] mandate that most Yorubas gave him because of the way he handled matters during Obasanjo’s Imperial Presidency.

These, though, are not days to regret steps because the fault for the turn of events lie with with many Yorubas, including this blogger who saw Buhari’s ascetic lifestyle and the fact that he was much better than others as far as fighting corruption is concerned.

I believe Asiwaju has to think deeply and act fast.

I believe Yorubas – and the rest of Nigeria, less the so-called core North must join together and act fast because there’s not a time to waste – MUST act fast.

How did Marcos and his wife become a bone too hard to break for Fillipinos until Cardinal Sin led the masses into what became a revolution?

How did Hitler manage to become such a force?

And here at home, how did Babangida rule for so many years?

They all knew the power of consolidation, and once that’s done, THAT was it.

Nigerians must not allow Buhari to realize whatever dreams he has that Christians have been crying out loud about for quite a while. Those in the Southwest who may want to put themselves in situations that would set Yorubas back must have a rethink.

Ondo & Ekiti State leaders have a big role to play: they must jettison politics which,  to me as far as Nigeria is concerned, is a pursuit of wealth and power without much consideration for the greater good. They must reach out to other leaders in the region, including, but ESPECIALLY Tinubu. We must never say ‘never’; the greater good must be our goal.

Most in the SW hate the PDP, and rightly so but the outcome of the coming election in Ondo must send a message to modern day internal colonizers that we will never have such again.

Once this is over, a big re-alignment must take place between similar groups in the whole of the South and the Middle Belt. I’ve posted Fani-Kayode’s writings only twice on this blog, and that was some years ago: “Who are the Yoruba People?” on May 29, 2013 and “Lagos, the Igbo and the Servants of Truth: Fani-Kayode prepares for a war for which no soldiers would likely show up” on August 8, 2013.

Actually, the second essay was simply titled Lagos, The Igbo And The Servants Of Truth but since I wrote an intro to it, I took the liberty to title it to reflect my feelings about the subject.

Today, I think his usual outspokenness and forthrightness come across here as being needed and genuine. Nigeria’s so-called unity, a mirage at best, is very negotiable and it has to be done or each nationality will end up going his way.

Bola Tinubu and those who want him dead –

Femi Fani-Kayode

I do not like to delve into matters touching and concerning the APC because I am not a member.

However what is happening in the ruling party today transcends partisan politics and should be a concern to us all. At the very least we can learn some very hard lessons from it.

The truth is that the behaviour of Chief John Odige-Oyegun towards the man that single-handedly made him the National Chairman of the party, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, is reprehensible.

And neither does this matter begin or end with the way and manner in which the Ondo state governorship  primaries were conducted or its final outcome.

It goes much deeper than that and the Ondo affair is only symptomatic of a much deeper malaise and wider conspiracy to humiliate the National Leader of the APC by forces within his party that are even greater than him.

Those forces represent the hidden hand. They are a small cabal of power-brokers who constitute the leadership of the Buhari-led CPC. These people believe that they were born to rule and that they own Nigeria.

They simply used Tinubu’s old ACN as a compliant and ready piggy-back to catapult their way back to power and once they achieved that they never looked back.

Some of us warned Tinubu at the time about the dangers of riding the tiger and allowing himself to be used by these very dark and sinister forces but he would not listen.

No true student of history could have made such a cataclysmic and monumental error given the terrible experiences of others from the south-west, and indeed the entire south, who collaborated with such ultra-conservative, sectarian and arcane forces with a clear and distinct ethnic and religious agenda in the past.

Such forces can never be comfortable with a well-connected, highly sophisticated, independent-minded, strong, unpredictable, uncontrollable and experienced Yoruba leader and southern gladiator with a June 12th pedigree, a NADECO background, a massive war-chest and a widespread and formidable political base.

They may use him to achieve their objective but they can never trust him or allow him to have control of the party machinery or to wield any real power when it comes to running the affairs of the nation. Most importantly once they have finished using him it becomes their duty and cardinal objective not just to cut him down to size but also to castrate and render him impotent and eventually destroy him.

That is their way. It is also a classic and vintage Nicollo Machiavelli move. This great writer that has had more influence on political thinking and strategies than perhaps any other author in human history taught us a critical and crucial lesson in his famous 14th century literary masterpiece and treatise on the power game titled “The Prince”. He tells us that the first thing that a Prince must do once he has achieved power is to destroy those that put him there.

And that is precisely what those that seek to do Tinubu in are doing. Worst still they are using his own erstwhile discipiles as a first line of attack against him. It is not just Odige-Oyegun that has turned his back on him but also his former political protegees and former ACN associates like Tunde Fashola, Ibikunle Amosu, Kayode Fayemi, Biodun Ajimobi, Olorunimbe Mamora, Niyi Adebayo, Rotimi Akeredolu and numerous others. Pulling the strings from behind the scenes and encouraging and funding the rebellion are hardline Buhari-supporters like my good friend Governor Nasir El Rufai and a number of others.

Their objective is to establish a new political order in the south west which is beholden to them alone, to replace Tinubu as the National Leader of the party and to utterly demystify and crush him in order to prepare the ground for the emergence of a new and more compliant Yoruba running mate for either Buhari himself or El Rufai in 2019.

As a graphic illustration of this interesting and unfolding agenda, the powers that be in the APC, led by Buhari himself, fired six shots at Tinubu inmediately after they formed  government.

The first was the Senate Presidency affair and the Bukola Saraki matter which saw the defeat and humiliation of Tinubu’s prefered candidate for Senate President.

The second shot was the Speaker of the House of Representatives affair and the Yakubu Dogara matter which, again, saw the defeat and humiliation of Tinibu’s prefered candidate for the position of Speaker of the House.

The third was the vital issue of Ministerial appointments in which not one single Ministerial nominee of Tinubu’s was accepted and appointed as a Minister by Buhari.

Every single person that he nominated from the south west and elsewhere as Minister was rejected and instead the slots were filled by his political adversaries and/or their nominees.

Many erroneously believe that Mr. Lai Mohammed, who is from Kwara state, was Tinubu’s choice and nominee for Minister of Information but this was not the case. The person that he nominated for Minister of Information was not Lai Mohammed but Mr. Dele Alake, his former Commissioner of Information in Lagos state.

Again he nominated Mr. Wale Edun, his former Commissioner of Finance in Lagos state, for the position of Minister of Finance but this was rejected and Governor Ibikunle Amosu’s candidate, Mrs. Kemi Adeosun, got the job instead.

This went on across the board for every single person that Tinubu nominated and presented for the position of Minister last year and it was a terrible humiliation for him. It was a dirty slap in his face.

The fourth shot was the James Faleke matter in Kogi state where it was agreed by the real landlords of the APC in the core north that Tinubu must not be allowed to gain a foothold in the north central zone by getting his own Yoruba kinsman and candidate to be elected as governor of that state.

Hence Faleke was ruthlessly dropped and shabbily treated and another person was selected to be the gubernatorial candidate of that state. It worked, Faleke went to court and sadly he lost. That was the end of the story.

The fifth shot is the thorough and systematic, though subtle and covert, humiliation and relegation of Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, a close associate and political protegee of Tinubu and a spiritual son of the reverred Pastor Enoch Adeboye of The Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), to not just a spare tyre as Vice President but also to a very flat one.

Rather than being allowed to participate in the crucial decision-making processes on vital and critical issues of state and governance as any Vice President should,  Osinbajo has been kept in the dark about virtually everything and he has little or no power to effect anything.

When such decisions are to be debated, discussed and made the Vice President is never invited into the room and neither is he even aware that there is such a meeting going on.

Worse still he is constantly being directed to represent the President at official functions all over the country as if he were more his Personal Assistant, Special Advisor or Minister rather than the Vice President of the country. Osinbajo’s crime is simply that he is loyal to Tinubu and he has refused to dump or betray him.

The sixth and perhaps most devastating shot is the fact that the party machinery has not only been taken away from Tinubu with the effective highjacking of Odige-Oyegun but that it has also opted to do the bidding of his mortal enemies and to fight him.

An eloquent testimony to this disturbing fact is the outcome of the Ondo state gubernatorial primaries where Tinubu’s candidate was edged out and cheated of the nomination by the party leadership.

This was the last straw that broke the camels back and predictably Tinubu has reacted in a very loud, aggressive and profound manner by publicly calling for the removal of the National Chairman of the party.

Yet calling for the removal of Odigie-Oyegun is not enough. The whole situation calls for critical thinking, sober reflection and deep retrospection. T

he point that needs to be clearly understood when considering these six shots and the unfolding anti-Tinubu agenda within the APC is the fact that, contrary to all pretensions, President Muhammadu Buhari is part and parcel of it and he is in fact the moving spirit behind the whole conspiracy.

Nasir El Rufai and a number of others are simply the strategists and enforcers. Buhari, Mamman Daura and Abba Kyari are the masterminds.

The way the narrative about Asiwaju, Bola Tinubu, and APC has played out so far reminds me of the story of how ìjàpá (the tortoise) and other animals tricked the elephant to his demise. Ìjàpá and the other animals worked on the ego of the elephant as regards his size and that because of this, the elephant deserves to be made the king of the jungle.

Every APC member used the size of Asiwaju’s political sagacity as well as his resources to his advantage, including Buhari to become the president. They knew they were going to use and discard him.

The animals prepared a throne for the elephant on a fake platform on top of a huge pit. They conned it by singing a song that flatterd the elephant as they led it to the throne,

A ò m’erin j’ọba/Ẹ̀rẹkún ẹwẹlẹ/ … – We are making the elephant king/ the Ẹ̀rẹkún ẹwẹlẹ refrain over and over again until the elephant sat on the fake throne and its weight crashed the platform. It met its demise.

Members of the APC are now sniggering after conning Tinubu out of his political and financial resources. His “high handedness” which was used in securing victories for APC from Buhari all the way down to Senators, House of Representative members, Governors, etc. is now irritating those same people. They did not complain when it worked in their interest.

I did not like how Tinubu was imposing candidates but now that we are seeing the hands of the Biblical Esau in the affairs of Yorubaland to destabilize the country so that those who did not plant can harvest, Tinubu needs to re-strategize.

His former acolytes that have benefitted from his political shepherding should do a rethink and refrain from sending Yorubaland to chaos. The issue on our hands is bigger than a simplistic reaction to what happened in the past.

Yoruba ro’nu. Do not allow yourselves to be used against Yorubas, as well as against Nigerians whose interests are not being considered by those in government.

The present APC, as many have complained since Buhari started saying NO to all the promises he made during the campaign is not the same APC that we voted for.

    Dear Tola,
Thanks as always for your prompt and incisive blogs.
Please find below my comments which I did not succeed in posting:

“Let the discerning absorb the facts in the warning and act appropriately and very fast too, to rescue the nation. This is the time for true patriots to stand up in defence of the motherland, or are we all the fools we are being taken for? God forbid. This is beyond partisan politics which, in any case, has not always been in the interest of the country but of individuals! Let the truly great at heart, and not pretenders, impostors and neo-colonialists, come to the rescue of the country and the endangered nationalities therein.

      A million thanks.

We have no time to lose, and we now have an agenda that must leave no real patriot, no group that believes in a true “federal” Nigeria – behind in trying to get a way to handle the seemingly dormant evil that has never allowed Nigeria to prosper, now up and strutting mightily across the land.

      Thanks, Ma.
