Thirty-one “breakout stars” from around the world for the Pyeongchang Games are featured in a TIME magazine essay referenced below. A little down the listing are the improbable stories of a couple of young ladies from the African continent – Ghana and Nigeria, Maamey Biney and Ṣeun Adigun.
Biney & Frimpong Akwasi (Ghana), and Simidele Adeagbo (Nigeria) whose stories have been featured here (see below) are bringing a lot of spotlight to Africa’s entry into the Winter Games although not all of them are competing for Africa. Maamey is competing in one of the most popular events of winter sports – speed skating – and actually has a chance to medal in the 500 meters.
This, however, are the stories of Ṣeun Adigun, Ngozi Onwumere and Akuoma Omeoga, Houstonians, who are hoisting the Green-White-Green as Nigeria’s Bobsled Team at Pyeongchang.

The three are making raves not only in their hometown of Houston, Texas where they’ve appeared on tv shows, but all across the US and beyond. They’ve even been guests on Ellen Degeneres very popular daytime Show to which they entered to a very Ellen-ish impromptu dance!
News outlets that features these young ladies as a group or individuals are bold-face media: New York Times, ESPN,Eyewitness News, Chicago Tribune, TIME, Christian Science Monitor, fashion Teen Vogue …
Other African countries making appearances at Pyeongchang include Kenya -Alpine Skiing – (see below) and Togo.

No matter the outcome at Pyeongchang, I’m sure these young ladies have already won not just the hearts of millions on more than two continents by showing you-can if you really try but by being FIRSTS to represent Africa where ice, as Maamey’s father reportedly has said, is for cooling drinks!
BTW, while a Nigerian male is also at Pyeongchang just as Ghana has a male competitor in the games [see below], it is interesting to note that most of these firsts-in-Africa are young women.

Thanks, Ope. Their tough training and challenging themselves to the point of qualifying are victories apart from settling examples to others.
Theirs are long shots; do not be disappointed, therefore, if neither the bobsledders nor the skeleton competitor get to the medal podium.
We definitely wish them all well, and I understand the exclamation mark at the end of your stated wish for them all.
